The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) RAFA is a forward looking membership organisation and a registered charity. With
76,000 members world-wide, RAFA provides friendship and welfare support for serving and ex-serving RAF personnel and their dependants - over 47,000 individuals are helped each year.
The York Branch is in the geographic centre of a large part of the R.A.F's , the R.C.A.F's, and other Commonwealth Air Force's history, and is proud to be a dynamic contributor to all facets of the association.
Our mission is to continue the special comradeship known to servicemen by providing a meeting place and forum for social activities.
We are dedicated to assisting the Royal Air Force Family and the local etc
local community in serving those in need.
The
Branch is very proud of it's History in respect of
the Book of Remembrance in York Minster, where, since 1960, the
Air Ministry decided that there should be four formal Page
Turning Ceremonies each year - on 1st April (Birthday of the
Royal Air Force), the first Saturday in June (Queens Official
Birthday, on Battle of Britain Day in September and on 31st
December (To mark the passing of the old year) - each are
attended to this day by a contingent of RAF personnel and of the
RAF Association York Branch. The Battle of Britain Service in
York Minster has a 'Special Person' invited to actually Turn the
Page, and this honour is exercised alternately by the Royal Air
Force and the Royal Air Forces Association.
